Katie & Pete | Persian Wedding DC

Katie & Pete’s Persian American wedding was fun, beautiful, and just plain awesome. I met them at one of Katie’s sister’s weddings a few years ago when they were tearing up the dance floor. If you didn’t already know this, Persians are awesome on the dance floor. I’m pretty sure it’s genetic. I have now photographed the weddings of three sisters from Katie’s family and every time it is like seeing old friends. So fun. Check out the view of Baltimore’s inner harbor from the bride’s suite. I spoke with the bride and groom as well as their planner about some of the options around the Inner Harbor and we settled on some great locations. We also consulted with the bride & groom about the uplighting and it turned out fantastic. Wedding uplighting adds so much life and atmosphere to all the reception photos. Check out their Persian American wedding at the Hyatt Regency in Baltimore.

Quyen & Adam | DC Cherry Blossom Wedding at Artisphere

We were delighted to capture Quyen and Adam’s wedding story. The cherry blossoms at the tidal basin in DC were in peak bloom!  I first met them at their friend’s wedding a few years ago. I was shooting that wedding and they were so pleased with the results that they decided to hire us. A lot of our clients come to us this way and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Here’s a glimpse into their pictures from their ceremony at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Chantilly to their pictures from Artisphere in Arlington. One of the photos of the bride among the DC cherry blossoms made Huffington Post’s Must See Wedding photos of 2014. Pretty much your perfect DC Cherry Blossom wedding!

Chocolate Tour DC | DC Food Photography

I recently took my wife on a fantastic date. It two big things going for it. First, we went to Georgetown. Second, there was chocolate involved. Lots of chocolate! We went to seven of the finest places to get chocolate in Georgetown. Such a fantastic journey has been dubbed the Chocolate Tour of DC. and is run by Great Food Tours. Our tour group contained about a dozen chocolate fiends. They were from all walks of life, represented all age demographics, and they were quite pleasant as long as you didn’t get between them and a processed cocoa bean. Our fearless leader was Linda and she was personable, knowledgeable, and most importantly a lover of chocolate. During our two-hour and two-plus mile chocolate mission throughout Georgetown she showered us with chocolate wisdom and fun facts about each shop. Enough with the words already. I’ll let me photos finish the rest of the story. But you should know that the day I took these photos I was a husband first, chocolate connoisseur second, and lastly a photographer. So even if these aren’t my best photos I still think your sweet tooth make audible cries for attention.

I will be adding to this post as time permits. so come back to drool over more chocolates.

River Bend Golf and Country Club Wedding – Brandon and Rita

Brandon and Rita’s wedding was a little bit fairytale and a lot of fun. After four days of rain they got a break in the weather.  Here’s a glimpse into their wedding story from their Jewish wedding at River Bend Golf and Country Club in Potomac Falls, Va. I hope you get a sense of just how fun these two are to be around. I can’t say enough good things about their families and Rita’s sweet mom who pulled together so many details that made the day great. Thankfully the 4 days of rain let up Saturday afternoon so we could shoot on the golf course and thankfully it came back so we could make one of my favorite photos of the year.

Raspberry Plain Leesburg wedding : Leo & Lisa

Leo and Lisa are in love and you can’t tell me otherwise. You’ll see that in every photo. Ever since I met with Leo and Lisa I knew that their wedding was going to be fun. Leo is about the most outgoing, kind, and fun person you could meet. Lisa is about the most compassionate, kind, and lovely woman you could meet. She left her job at one of the largest internet companies in the country to become a caretaker for a young lady with special needs. Leo, you married up my friend and you’re in good company. Present company included. Congratulations Leo & Lisa. Here are a few sneak peek photos from their Raspberry Plain Leesburg wedding.

DC Wedding Photos: Chris & Jessica’s Georgetown Dahlgren Chapel and Anderson House Wedding

Georgetown University roots run deep. Half of the wedding party were Alumni as well as some of their parents. The other half of the wedding party were doctors which lead to some interesting discussions before the wedding. But, back to Jessica and Chris and 130 of their closest friends. They married at Dahlgren Chapel at Georgetown University and their reception was held at the always elegant Anderson House. We made sure to take wedding photos at Heally Hall, Copley Hall, and of course the ladies spent some time in the fountain. From Jessica’s ornate dress to the bow ties and cuff-links you will see their roaring 20’s theme throughout. Dare I say that some of the photo booth props we brought were from the 20’s?

Congratulations Chris and Jessica! Thank you for inviting us to tell your wedding story.

DC Engagement Photos: Chris and Jessica.

Chris and Jessica’s sunrise engagement session at the tidal basin was another super early morning where it paid off to sacrifice my beauty rest for the sake of great light. We made the rounds at the tidal basin and The Jefferson Memorial. So when the garbage crew parked their truck in the background of our photos we turned the problem into the solution–a garbage glam session. I love it when my clients are willing laugh at the serendipity of life with me. I’m really looking forward to their wedding at Dahlgren Chapel at Georgetown University with their reception at The Anderson House. It will be a lot of fun to capture their roaring 20’s theme.

DC Engagement photos: Jason and Anna

Fact: Spring arrived fashionably late for 2013.

Fact: The Cherry Blossoms followed suit.

Fact: You can’t take a bad photo of Jason and Anna.

The Cherry blossoms are finally at peak after at least a 10-day delay. So get out there in the next few days to take in the sights. Hopefully they will withstand Thursday’s predicted rain so I can capture them in my next session this weekend with Chris and Jessica.

Teaching at Nikon’s Photo Day at The Newseum

Teaching always reminds me why I love telling stories. This Saturday November 17 I’ll be lecturing about visual storytelling at The Newseum.  My lecture will last 45 minutes but the event lasts all day and includes multiple lectures, a photo scavenger hunt, a hands-on demo of all of Nikon’s latest gear, and more. More information about the photo day schedule here.
You will have access to the whole museum. Go check out White House News Photographers Association’s Eyes of History exhibit. Some of my work is on display there and it includes a video interview with me for my “video editor of the year” award. I’ve been so busy I haven’t even had time to see the exhibit. This will change on Saturday. Below is a teaser of the video on display.

Premiere of National Geographic’s Seal Team 6

I went to the premiere of feature film “Seal Team 6: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden” at the Newseum a few days ago. I walked in and they asked me “are you press” and I paused and finally answered “no.” This was one of the first times since I left USA TODAY that I haven’t gone to an event where I wasn’t there to work. I think it’s going to take a while to retrain my brain and to respond as a “normal” civilian human and not as part of the press. It sure was nice to relax and enjoy the film and fantastic heavy h’orderves. Think lobster corndog! I did manage to take a picture while I was there.
